World’s best press photos on display in Oulu

Press photographers from all over the world take part in the World Press Competition.

The World Press Photo 11 exhibition of the best in photojournalism opens in the Northern Finnish town of Oulu on February 29.

Location

The exhibition is a great way to see some of the most beautiful, sad or thought provoking photography from newspapers, news agencies and photographers in the world.

The World Press Photo 11 showcases the best photographs taken in 2010. Out of the nine categories one photograph was selected as the winner of the competition. 108,059 photos were submitted by 5,691 photographers of 125 different nationalities. They were judged by an independent jury made up of professionals in the field from across the world.

The prizewinning photographs were assembled into this traveling exhibition, which is visited by around 2.5 million people in 100 locations in some 45 countries every year. The yearbook presenting all prizewinning entries is published annually in seven languages.

World Press Photo is an independent, non-profit organization based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Founded in 1955 the organization is known for holding the world’s largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest.
