New flight connection between Barents capitals

The L-410 will operate the route Arkhangelsk-Syktivkar three times per week

For the first time in more than 20 years, an air company is starting up regular flights between the cities of Arkhangelsk and Syktyvkar.

“Everyone, who earlier had to go through Moscow or St Petersburg to travel between Arkhangelsk and the capital of the Komi Republic, will now get a direct connection”, Mikhail Martynov, Deputy Head of the Arkhagnelsk regional Transport Agency said at at the official opening of the route.

The direct route between the regions have been strongly supported by the regional leaders, among them Arkhangelsk Governor Igor Orlov.

The flight connection also includes Kotlas, the city located in the southern part of Arkhangelsk Oblast.

Regional authorities and the companies involved in the operations now also consider the possible extention of the route, including international cooperation, a press release from the Arkhagnelsk regional government reads. From before, Arkhangelsk is connected with an international route to Tromsø, Norway.

The Arkhangelsk-Kotlas-Syktyvkar route is operated by the company Komiaviatrans, a Komi-based entity, and the aircraft model to be used is L-410 Turbolet, a Czech-produced twin-engine short-range transport aircraft. The total flight time between Arkhangelsk and Syktyvkar, including the landing in Kotlas, is three hours. 

Starting from 29 September, the flights will be conducted three time per week. The ticket price for the whole Arkhangelsk-Syktyvkar connection is 6000 roubles, the company Komiaviatrans informs.

In 2013, the Russian company UGMK became the wholesale owner of LET Kunovice Aircraft Industries and announced that they would move production of the L-410 to Russia.
