The Barents Spektakel festival has a 10th year anniversary this year and the Crown Prince will probably be given the honor to open the celebration. In 2013 it is also 20 years since the establishment of the Barents Region.

“We are delighted that HRH Crown Prince Haakon is guesting Barents Spektakel only two years after HM Queen Sonja opened Barents Spektakel in 2011. We appreciate HRH the Crown Prince showing interest in the Barents region in general, and Barents Spektakel in particular, and hope that this will bring more attention to the High North”, a press release from Pikene på Broen reads.

The art curators in the Kirkenes based Pikene på Broen are the initiators and organizers of the festival. The Barents Spektakel is an international art and culture festival in Kirkenes: A cocktail of contemporary art, performances, literature, theatre, film, seminars and concerts as ingredients, spiced with current issues related to the Barents Region.

For the 2013-festival the slogun TICKING BARENTS is chosen. It will focus on the international hunting for raw resources and the new transportation routes in the Arctic. In addition, the festival plays out alternative social structures and local formats of communal self-organization.

The Crown Prince will be in Kirkenes at the 5th of February during the opening of the festival. The festival will last until the 10th of February.
