Oil field on fire

An uncontrolled outburst of gas and oil from a field in the Timan Pechora province this week resulted in a fire.

Location

The incident took place at the Vostochno-Sarutayuskoye field, a structure located about 150 km from the regional center of Naryan-Mar, Oilru.com reports. The fire was first reported by helicopter pilots operating in the oil-rich Arctic province.

Field owner Lukoil confirms that the fire started at 9:40 am Tuesday and that it was extinguished about 4,5 hours later. The accident is reported to have happened during construction works conducted at field facilities. Fire brigades were recruited from the neighboring fields of Inzyreyskoye and Yuzhno-Khilchuyu.

No damage was made to environment in the area, representatives of the company underlined to RIA Novosti.

The regional Russian Nature Control Authority (Rosprirodnadzor) has initiated an investigation of the case.
