“We are ready to handle the increase in demands”, Director of the Naryan-Mar Commecial Port  Ivan Chemko underlines. He expects shipments from the Russian Arctic port to increase from 140,000 tons in 2013 to about 200,000 tons in 2014, a press release from the Nenets regional administration reads.

Figures from Patchwork Barents show that the port has had a steady increase in shipments from 2009 to 2012, when turnover totaled 118,400 tons. At the same time, the Varandey terminal, an installation operated by Lukoil, is experiencing growth after several years of decline. The terminal, which is located along the Pechora Sea coast, has a capacity of 12 million tons of oil per year, but in 2012 handled only 3,12 million tons.

Now, however, production is expected to again pick pace. As previously reported, Lukoil has informed that it intends to boost regional production by 30 percentover the next two years. In addition, several other companies are starting up new projects in the region, among them are Bashneft and Rusvietpetro. Some of these resources are expected to be shipped out through Lukoil’s Varandey terminal.

Also the Kharyaga field is delivering more oil. According to the Nenets regional administration, the Kharyaga consortium headed by Total in 2013 produced 1,4 million tons. As reported by BarentsObserver, also parts of the Kharyaga oil is now being directed towards Varandey.
