First oil shipment from Novy Port

Oil from the Novoportovskoye field will contribute to a substantial increase in Arctic oil shipping.

Gazprom Neft is ready to ship out 80,000 tons of Novoportovskoye oil through the Ob Bay and towards western markets.

Two tankers operated by Sovcomflot will in September this year pick up a total of 80,000 tons of Novoportovskoye oil in a first ever outshipment from the field, Gazprom Neft informs.

The out-shipment is the first ever from the field located in the southern part of the energy-rich Yamal Peninsula

Gazprom Neft is constructing a new a port terminal at Novy Port, the project infrastructure hub, located at Cape Kamenny about 400 km south of Novatek’s more known Sabetta port. The port is connected with a 106 km long pipeline to the field production facilities. From late 2015, the company intends to start up round-the-year oil exports from Novy Port. When completed, the new port will have a 40,000 ton/day capacity, a press release reads.

Over the last couple of years, Gazprom Neft has transported out oil from Novoportovskoya by trucks on winter roads. The oil has been delivered to a terminal on the Ob-Bovanenkovo railway line.

The Novoportovskoye oil is said to be light and contain only 0,1 percent sulphure. It is of better quality than both Urals and Brent, Gazprom Neft says. The company has branded the oil as ”Novy Port”.
