Russia’s nuclear fuel company TVEL announces a signed contract with Vattenfall Nuclear fuel AB for supply of lead fuel assemblies to be used in the third reactor at Sweden’s Ringhals nuclear power plant. The contract is the first ever between Russia and a western designed pressure water reactor.
The fuel assemblies will be produced at TVEL’s uranium fuel plant in Novosibirsk, the company reports on its portal. In the first phase, four to eight experimental fuel assembiles will be delivered to the Swedish nuclear power plant located on the west coast near Gothenburg.
Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation says in a statement that a successful implementation of this project will let TVEL manufacturer access a new, vaster market of western design reactors and by that expand Russia’s position in the global nuclear fuel market.
