Two top Bashneft managers left the company due to the accident at the Trebs oil field in the Nenets Autonomous District.

Location

An estimated 2200 tons of oil polluted big areas around the field on the Arctic tundra in an uncontrolled spill in April this year.

Satellite images show that the spill covers over 40,000 square metres.

Alexander Dashevsky, Senior Vice President responsible for oil and gas production and Rinat Nagaev, Director of the department for oil and gas production, has left the company, Bashneft’s President Aleksander Korsik said to RIA Novosti.

“It’s not because they are guilty of the accident, but because when the accidents like this happens in a company, someone must be responsible”, Korsik said. “In principle, I could bear the same responsibility”, he added.

According to Korsik, a state commission is now investigating the incident and will answer on the question what happened on the field and make corresponding conclusions.
