Nord Stream crossed the Neva

Neva River, St.Petersburg

An underwater tunnel for the Nord Stream pipeline has been laid under the legendary Neva River.

Location

The tunnel was completed this week and a ceremony will held be on the site today, Itar-Tass reports. The tunnel will open for the Nord Stream pipeline’s underground crossing of the river. It has been made in Leningrad Oblast on the route from Gryazovets (Vologda Oblast) to Vyborg. The main part of the Nord Stream pipeline will cross the Baltic Sea from Vyborg to Greifswald in Germany. If built, the pipeline will be Russia’s first major direct link to the EU. A main part of the Nord Stream gas will come from the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea.
