The HSE project on the Barents Sea is in its third phase and results are to be presented in Moscow in December this year, a press release from DNV reads. Since the project was initiated by Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in 2007, seven groups of Russian and Norwegian experts have met regularly to discuss and elaborate on various issues related to HSE in the Barents Sea.

Cross-border expert collaboration has flourished as the harmonisation project has brough together two sets of unique experiences; Russian in-depth knowledge and expertise with regard to operations in cold climate and Norwegian expertise from offshore operations”, the DNV writes.

The Norwegian government in 2006 presented its integrated management plan for the Barents Sea and the sea areas off the Lofoten Islands. Since then, it has been an objective for Norwegian authorities to include Russia in the elaboration of joint management plans for the area.
