Culture with border area focus

The Norwegian and Russian ministers of culture signed a three year detailed cooperation programme in Moscow on Sunday.

The Moscow agreement is a follow-up of the culture action plan between Norway and Russia signed in Oslo in January, as previously reported by BarentsObserver.com

The new three year cooperation programme will have special focus on cross-border cultural projects within the Norwegian and Russian part of the Barents Region. ‘

Highlighted in the programme is the annual Jazz Days in Arkhangelsk. The aim is to have more Norwegian Jazz artists to participate and by that facilitate for more jazz-exchange between the two countries in the north.

Also highlighted in the programme available on the Norwegian government’s website is the library exchange based on the existing Norwegian-Russian library service in Kirkenes.

Special focus will also be put on making arenas for indigenous people’s culture, the Norwegian Ministry of Culture writes in a press note available on the Ministry’s website.
