Russians will have to pay more for gas

The Russian government will increase gas tariffs with 20 percent for private consumers next year, Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports.

According to the newspaper, the Ministry of Economic Development in a meeting on 8 May decided to increase gas tariffs on private consumption with five percent from 1 January and then with another 15 percent in April. Industry will from January 1 have to pay 15 percent more for gas. Gazprom and the Russian energy industry has long called for major increase in energy tariffs in order to increase profits. For Gazprom, the tariff increase is vital for the company to overcome the company’s crisis deficits, Ng.ru reports.
