New city mayor sworn in

Sergey Subbotin was last Friday sworn in as the new city mayor of Murmansk. His first move was to dismiss the whole administration of former mayor Mikhail Savchenko.

Mr. Subbotin, who defeated the candidate of the powerful United Russia Party in the May 15 city mayor elections, was in a ceremony last Friday sworn in as the new city leader. He won in a second election round against Mikhail Savchenko with 60,75 percent of the votes.

His first move was to remove practically the whole administration of former mayor Savchenko, Murman.ru reports.

-How beautiful, even fantastic, my election campaign promises might have sounded, I will fulfill them at whatever costs. My main guiding principles are lawfulness, openness for the population in my duties and the continuity of the good and positive issues made prior to me, the new mayor said in the ceremony, newspaper Murmansky Vestnik reports.

-Together we can move mountains, he added.

Present in the ceremony was also former regional governor Yury Yevdokimov, who strongly supported Mr. Subbotin in his election campaign. Mayor Subbotin comes from the post as Murmansk deputy governor.
