One year postponement for Goliat

Goliat Platform

The oil company ENI Norway has decided to postpone the development of the Goliat oil field in the Barents Sea with one year. The project needs the time to be approved by the Norwegian Parliament, the company argues.

Location

ENI Norway is operator of the Goliat oil filed, situated off the coast of northern Norway, close to the Snøhvit field. The company’s plan was to prepare the project for production in 2012. Because the project has not been approved by the Norwegian Parliament, the company cannot order equipment for the development, company representatives say.

The government approval will probably not be given until early spring 2009, which is too late for ENI to meet its original development schedule. Production start is now postponed to 2013.
