The export of Russian gas in October dropped 8,3 percent year on year. Russian export monopolist Gazprom still expects 2008 profits to be record-high.

According to Oilru.com, Russian gas exports in October month fell 8,3 percent, following less imports to Germany, France and Italiy. The reason, an official in the energy company says, it the currently high price on Russian gas. Russian gas from October 1 costs up to 520 USD per thousand cubic meter, which is the highest gas price in Europe, the news site writes. The gas prices have made the main importers look to other sellers, among them Algeria. The drop in export will still not hamper good 2008 results for the Russian gas company. According to company representative Sergey Chelpanov, Gazprom will in 2007 have the record-high profit of 70-75 billion USD. In 2009 however, Gazprom will however face major challenges in its exports. According to Mr. Cheplanov, the gas company intends to compensate its falling revenues from sales to Western Europe with higher prices for consumers in Belorussia and the Ukraine.
