Politicians fight over landing of oil

The "Goliat" and "Snøhvit" fields

Labour Party politicians in northern Norway demand that all oil from the “Goliat” field in the Barents Sea is brought to land. They believe that the region will not benefit from the proposed production from a floating unit.

Location

Operator Eni Norway wants to develop the field based on the use of a floating production unit. The Labour Party politicians want it otherwise however. They maintain that the floating solution will leave the region without major benefits from the project. Only the landing of the oil and construction of land-based facilities will give a regional development benefit, they argue. The regional politicians also want Eni to develop the field with electric power in order to minimize carbon dioxide emissions, NRK reports.
