Russians believe in better relations with West

47 percent of Russians believe worsening relations with the West will be short-lasting, a new poll shows.

Location

The poll from the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) shows that 18 percent of the respondents believe the conflict in Georgia will have long-lasting effects on relations with western countries. Another 18 percent believe relations will remain unchanged. 47 percent say that the chilly relations will be only short-lasting.

At the same time, the same number of respondents – 47 percent – say they believe big western countries like the USA, Germany and the UK are actively trying to harm Russia. Less people (37 percent) say the opposite – that the mentioned countries rather must be considered as partners, with joint interests as Russia.

In the poll 1600 individuals from Russian 42 regions have been questioned. The poll is made in the period 12 July-31 August.
