Vasily Shambir’s apartment searched Friday morning

Speaker of the Regional Duma in Murmansk Vasily Shambir.

Speaker of the Regional Duma in Murmansk can be linked to same criminal case as ex-Governor adviser Gennady Shubin.

Location

The search of Vasily Shambir’s apartment took place in Murmansk Friday morning.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs in Murmansk says in a press-release that the case is related to the theft of 215 million rubles from Sberbank. In addition to searching the apartment of Vasily Shambir, searches have also been done in offices at the Regional Duma and in a number of other locations, including in the city of Kandalaksha where Shambir earlier worked.

“Investigation is started to examine possible involvement by Shambir in the theft of more than 200 million rubles from Sberbank by former adviser to ex-governor in Murmansk region Gennady Shubin,” a source in the investigation department says to Interfax.

Governor in Murmansk at that time was Dmitry Dmitrienko.

Gennady Shubin was arrested in February on suspicion of embezzlement of billions of rubles from the regions power and utilities sector.

RIA Novosti reports that Vasily Shambir from 2003 to 2009 served as General Director of the joint stock company KOMZ (Kandalaksha Developmental Engineering Plant). Gennady Shubin and his accomplices received more than 550 million rubles in bank loans to KOMZ. Part of that money has been listed on spurious grounds on Shubin’s affiliated organizations.

Vasily Shambir (44) represents United Russia and has been Speaker of the Regional Duma since December 2011. Before being elected to the Regional Duma, he was Head of the Kandalaksha district, south on the Kola Peninsula.
