New speaker of Murmansk Duma

Speaker of Murmansk Regional Duma Mikhail Ilinykh

United Russia’s Mikhail Ilinykh is elected as Speaker of Murmansk Regional Duma.

Ilinykh has been acting as speaker for the eight last months, since the former speaker Vasily Shambir was accused of fraud in January 2014. Shambir was removed from the post as speaker in the end of November, a few weeks after he was kicked out of United Russia.

Ilinykh was the only candidate for the post as speaker. He received 25 votes from the 33 representatives that were present in the Duma, Blogger51 reports. The representatives from the Communist Party denied taking part in the voting, claiming that it was against parliament regulations to have an open voting.

The meeting in the Duma took place on Thursday.

Mikhail Ilinykh is leader of United Russia’s fraction in the regional duma. He leads the Duma’s committee for issues concerning security, the military-industrial complex, military personnel and closed towns. Ilinykh has worked as Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet responsible for armament and weapons operations, the Murmansk Regional Duma’s web site reads.

Ilinykh was released from his position as deputy commander in March 2011 by then President Medvedev, as BarentsObserver reported. He became a member of the regional parliament in December 2011.
