Russia’s Sergei Lavrov and Norway’s Jonas Gahr Støre agrees on the text on how to facilitate visa-free travel for part of the population in Kirkenes, Nikel and Zapolyarny.

Location

Murmansk governor Dmitri Dmitrienko will stay in Oslo both Monday and Tuesday. Also regiona players from Northern Norway will participate in Oslo when Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is in the Norwegian capital to take part in the Northern Dimension ministerial meeting on November 2nd.

The Northern Dimension meeting will among other things discuss development of transport and logistics between EU’s northern member states, Russia and Norway. Russia has over the last few years up-graded its road-connection from Murmansk towards the border of Norway far more than Norway has done in its near-border areas to Russia.

During Sergei Lavrov’s official visit to Norway, there is scheduled a signing ceremony of a Russian-Norwegian agreement to facilitate visa-free travel for citizens in the near border areas on both sides.

The agreement was first supposed to be signed during Russian President Dmitri Medvedev’s state visit to Oslo in April, but the two countries negotiators did not figured out a text to final agreement in time.
