It will be the first ever Chess Olympiad in the Barents Region.

Location

The north Norwegian city of Tromsø will be the host city for the 41st Chess Olympiad in 2014.

- We promise the chess world a unique experience combining competent and experienced organizing skills in a friendly and exciting environment, says Tromsø Mayor Arild Hausberg.

The decision to give Tromsø the Chess Olympiad in 2014 was taken Saturday in the Russian city of Khanty-Mansiysk, where the 39th Chess Olympiad is arranged this weekend.

Tromsø is the largest city in the Norwegian part of the Barents Region with its 68,000 residents, including 10,000 university students. Historically, Tromsø has been Norway’s gateway to the Arctic.
