Green light for grand ski resort

Regional authorities in Murmansk have approved plans for a major extention of the skiing resorts in Kirovsk, in the central part of the Kola Peninsula.

Location

The Murmansk regional government this week approved a projected 1,8 square kilometer extension of the ski resorts in Kirovsk, a government press release reads. The approval is one of the first steps in the creation of the Khibinskaya tourism and recreation area.

Kirovsk, centrally located in the Khibiny mountains, is an attractive site for skiers and hikers from all over Northwest Russia. The resort every year attracts thousands of visitors. Still, infrastructure and services in the area have long been in major need of modernization.
