Two billion RUB on Arctic shelf studies

Russia will spend about two billion RUB on studies of the Arctic shelf as part of its bid to the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf.

Minister of Natural Resources Yuri Trutnev confirms that Russia is spending about two billion RUB on studying the shelf. Currently, the polar research vessel “Akademik Fyodorov” is on a historic mission in the Arctic studying the extension of the shelf.

According to the minister, Russia is now first of all engaged in studying sea depths and doing seismic studies in the area on the request of the UN Commission, RIA Novosti reports.
