Norway renews quotas for hunting 1286 minke whales in northern- and Arctic waters.

Location

Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs gives permission to Norwegian whale hunters to shoot as many animals in 2012 as last year. The quota is set based on models developed by the Scientific Committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC).

We have set a quota that provides adequate safeguards for sustainable harvesting of the minke whale stocks,” says Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs Lisbeth Berg-Hansen. In a press-note, she emphasizes that Norway must facilitate for continued stability and favorable conditions for the whaling industry.
