Honest cop detained

Law enforcement authorities in the Komi Republic have detained Mikhail Yevseyev, the former policeman who reported about serious law violations conducted by the regional police force.

Location

Yevseyev was placed on a federal wanted list last week, and soon arrested in near Moscow and sent to the Komi Republic to face charges, the Moscow Times reports with reference to Interfax.

The policeman became known over all over Russia and abroad when he accused his ex-colleagues of fabricating a case against two convicts in a 2005 fire that killed 25 people.

Yevseyev also released a video addressed to President Dmitry Medvedev in which he claimed that Komi law enforcement officials were falsifying criminal cases against innocent people, including businessmen.

Yevseyev’s video appeal followed the example of former Novorossiisk police officer Alexei Dymovsky, who complained about corrupt superiors to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in November, the Moscow Times writes.
