Russian warship training in Norwegian Sea

The Northern Fleet’s destroyer “Severomorsk” is heading home after a five month long mission to the Mediterranean. On the way, the vessel will be conducting drills in the Norwegian Sea and Barents Sea.

Location

A vessel group headed by “Severomorsk” today started anti-air and anti-vessel drills in the Norwegian Sea, RIA Novosti reports. The crews will also be training on rescue operations using Ka-27 helicopters.

The vessel group, which in addition to the destroyer consists of the tanker “Dunba” and the tug SB-406, passed through the English Channel on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense’s web site reads.

“Severomorsk” left the town of Severomorsk on November 20, 2014, and has since then sailed more than 18.300 nautical miles.

“Severomorsk” has earlier participated in anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden, in the Norwegian-Russian naval exercise POMOR, and in the international naval drill FRUKUS.
