“In contrast to the strategic fourth generation submarines “Yury Dolgoruky” and “Aleksander Nevsky”, which have less than 40 percent new technology, all systems, components and mechanisms on the multipurpose submarine Kazan will be brand new, a source in the military-industrial complex says to ARMS-TASS. “This is absolutely new, high-tech equipment, which has no analogues in the Soviet and Russian shipbuilding”, he added.

Both “Yury Dolgoruky” and “Aleksander Nevsky” are based on hulls of unfinished Akula-class submarines, as BarentsObserver reported.

“When it comes to its tactical and technical characteristics, “Kazan” will be comparable to the most high-tech and expensive U.S. attack submarine “Seawolf”, and when it comes to the level of noise and some other parameters, it will even surpass it”, the source says.

The first submarine in the “Graney” (Russian classification “Yasen”) class, “Severodvinsk” is currently undergoing sea trials.

Submarines of the “Graney” class will have a maximum speed of 16 knots surfaced and 31 knots submerged and they will be 119m long, 13,5m wide and 9,4m high. They will be armed with 24 cruise missiles, according to Wikipedia.
