Norwegian, which is the second largest airline in Scandinavia, opened its direct flight between Oslo and Saint Petersburg in 2006. It is one of the company’s oldest international routes.
The economic crisis with falling oil prices, a weak Russian ruble and the effects of Western sanctions against Russia are now making travelers shun the route, and Norwegian’s last plane from Saint Petersburg takes off on October 23, Oslo Airports writes.
Norwegian is also reducing the number of flights to Saint Petersburg from the other Scandinavian capitals.
Other airlines like SAS, Finnair and Lufthansa are also reducing the number of flights between their home markets and Saint Petersburg, the website informs.
