The close associate of Mikhail Khodorkovsky will probably end up in a prison in Murmansk Oblast.

Location

The former CEO of Menatep, the bank controlled by Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his Yukos, is sent to Murmansk Oblast, sources in the regional prison authorities confirm to Interfax. That makes it likely that Platon Lebedev will be locked up in a prison camp in the region.

As BarentsObserver reported, also Mikhail Khodorkovsky is sent to the Russian Northwest. Most likely, the former business tycoon will spend five years in a prison in Segezha in the Republic of Karelia.

Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his companion Platon Lebedev, convicted of fraud and tax evasion in a first trial in 2005, were found guilty of theft and money laundering over Yukos’ operations in a second trial on 30 December 2010. The Moscow City Court on 24 May this year rejected an appeal from the two men. They will be released only in 2016.

With both the two famous prisoners locked up in regional jails, it will be court authorities in Murmansk and Karelia which will have to handle court appeals in the case. An appeal for early release has already been filed with a court in Moscow, and this appeal will now be transferred to the two respective regions.
