Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin pays Sevmash and Arkhangelsk a visit on Wednesday.

Location

According to Arkhangelsk Regional Government, Putin will come to Arkhangelsk Oblast on Wednesday November 9 to visit Sevmash shipyard and take part in the unveiling of a memorial tablet on the newly opened Lomonosov house in Arkhangelsk, SeverInform reports.

The reason for the Prime Minister’s visit to Sevmash is probably to sign contracts on state orders on naval equipment. As BarentsObserver reported, the United Shipbuilding Corporation and the Russian Defense Ministry have just recently agreed on prices for two classes of nuclear submarines that are under construction at the shipyard.

The giant shipbuilding corporation that includes Sevmash and Zvezdochka shipyards in Severodvinsk, have had a long-going fight with the ministry over the bills for construction of Russia’s new Yasen and Borey class submarines as well as other contracts. The two parties reached a compromise on the prices only last week, and it was announced that the contracts would be signed in the nearest future.

Vladimir Putin last visited Arkhangelsk in September 2011, when he participated in the International Arctic Forum “Arctic – territory of dialogue”.
