Trade between Murmansk and Norway increases

Trade turnover between Murmansk Oblast and Norway increased 20 percent in 2011 compared to 2010. The total turnover amounted to $248 million last year.

Norway is one of Murmansk’s largest foreign trade partners and take fourth place after the Netherlands, China and the US”, Murmansk Oblast Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko said to Nord-News.

According to Dmitriyenko, trade with Norway constitutes 7.2 percent of the total foreign turnover in Murmansk. Export to Norway amounts to $189 million and import from Norway $59 million. The increase in trade turnover is a result of export of floating constructions and import of fish fodder.

Norwegian investments in Murmansk in 2011 increased with 7.7 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to $17.8 million. This is 61 percent of all foreign investments in the region. Most of the Norwegian investments are in industry, retail trade and service.

There are now 34 companies with Norwegian investments in Murmansk. Among the companies are electronic producer BR Electronics, the concrete producer Ølen Betong, the hotel Park Inn Polyarnye Zori, the bank DnB NOR Monchebank and Reinertsen, a company specializing in production of metal constructions for the oil and gas industry.
