Russian industrial gas consumption the first 20 days of May dropped 13 percent year on year, Interfax reports.

The drop comes after several months of negative gas consumption. As BarentsObserver earlier reported, Russian gas consumption has shrunk significantly starting with a 15 percent drop in November and then 10 percent in December, eight percent in January and 3,7 percent in February.

Figures from March indicated that private consumers’ gas consumption was about to return to 2008 levels.

The industry’s consumption however remains on the decrease, signaling that production levels are yet to pick pace.
