Murmansk editor shot

Shafig Amrahov, editor of the Regional News Agency in Murmansk, was severely wounded after he got several gunshots in the head when entering his apartment house.

Location

The brutal attack happened in the evening on December 30th and the person firing the gunshots quickly disappeared from the crime scene, reports MBNews. The attack on Shafig Amrahov is the latest in a series of attacks on Russian journalists.

RIA 51, the web-site Amrahov worked for, has so far not made any comment on possible motive for the attack.  MBNews speculate that the attack on the editor can be related to the up-coming local election campaign in Murmansk.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs in Murmansk could not give any comments to local media after the attack. Quoted by b-port.com, the press-service of the Ministry’s regional division says that “information about the incident cannot be given before after the New Year’s vacation,” - that is not earlier than January 12th.
