Finland stops Russian pirate taxis

Since last spring, dozens of pirate taxi drivers lost their visa to Finland after driving passengers over the border.

Earlier the border guards just monitored the extent of the unauthorized taxi traffic crossing the different border posts between Finland and Russia. Last spring, Finland got a new aimed at cracking down on unlicensed taxi drivers, YLE reports. The minimum punishment is a ten day-fine. In Finland, fines are calculated according to daily personal income. In addition, the pirate taxi drivers also have their visas invalidated. A ride from St. Petersburg to Helsinki in an unauthorised taxi can cost as little as 38 euros.
