Yet another reorganisation of the Fishery Agency

Russian President Dmitrii Medvedev last week deprived the country’s Ministry of Agriculture control over the Fishery Agency. From now on, the agency will be directly subordinated the government.

The reorganisation of the agency, one of many over the last few years, leaves PM Vladimir Putin with bigger power over fishery affairs. According to the presidential decree, government will be directly responsible for state fishery policies, including the protection and management of marine resources. The decree also reads that the Fishery Agency will be responsible for managing state assets in the industry, as well as provide security for shipping and emergency operations in fishing fields, Newsru.com reports with reference to Itar-Tass. The Fishery Agency last year got status as state committee with wide powers. With the formation of the new Russian government, the fishery authority was however again downgraded to agency.
