By 2010, Russia will have completed the decommissioning of all its retired nuclear submarines, a representative of Rosatom says.

Only two submarines, both in a emergency state, will remain not decommissioned by 2010, Yevgenii Kudryavtsev confirmed in a conference on the issue today. Since 2002, a total of 99 subs have been decommissioned and dismantled, 70 of the on Russian funding and the remaining 29 with support from foreign donors. Nine vessels are currently in the process of being decommissioned, while another five lie ready for decommissioning.
