Governor of Murmansk Oblast, Yuri Yevdokimov, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Dutch company Windlife Energy aimed at building the first ever windmill park in the region. The park might be built in the area of Teriberka on the Barents Sea coast.
According to a press release from the Murmansk regional administration, the agreement gives Windlife Energy the right to create and register an operator company which is to implement the project plans. Studies have indicated the wind energy potential of the region is at least 2000 MWh. The first windmill park in the peninsula might be built in the area of Teriberka, about 100 km north-east of the Murmansk City. Teriberka is also the site chosen as the main hub for processing of gas from the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea.
