The results from this weekend’s elections in the Komi Republic show that the United Russia party won a comfortable 50,9 percent of the votes. The Communist Party got 15,8 percent, while the Liberal Democrats got 15,7 percent and the A Just Russia Party got 12,7 percent, the Federal Election Commission informs.
The win of the United Russia is solid, but still well below previous results. In the State Duma elections in 2007, the party got 62,06 percent of the votes in the Komi Republic. The negative trend for the party is evident also in a number of other regions. Regional parliament elections were this Sunday held in 12 regions and shrinking results for United Russia were registered in about all of them.
Turnout in the Komi elections was 49,79 percent of the electorate. That is the highest ever in regional parliament elections, leader of the Komi Election Commission Yelena Shchabarshina says in a press release.
In addition to the parliament elections, another 3,300 various elections on different levels were held in 74 regions on Sunday. Preliminary results show that the United Russia all together has the support of less than half the population, with an average of 46 percent of the vote, the Moscow Times reports.
