Fewer visitors to Santa Claus

Santa Claus office, Rovaniemi

Santa Claus official airport outside Rovaniemi will receive 120 fewer charter planes this year compared with Christmas season 2008.

Location

Some 350 charter planes with Santa Claus visitors are scheduled for Finnish Lapland this season, reports the business portal E24.

Most of the charter planes with Santa-visitors are British. It is the economical downturn in Great Britain that can be blamed for the reduced interest to meet with Santa Claus in his village just north of Rovaniemi this year.

The Rovaniemi airport, said to be Santa Claus Official Airport, served near half a million passengers last year. In addition there are charter flights to other airports in Finnish Lapland as well.
