Submarine fire

Location

The fire happend on December 29th while the submarine was in a floating dock at the naval yard Roslyakova north of Murmansk on Russia’s Kola Peninsula.

Yekaterinburg” is a 25 year old strategic submarine, normally carrying 16 intercontinental missiles. There are two nuclear reactors onboard. The reactors were shut down when the submarine was taken into the floating dock on December 8th, 2011 and according to official information all the missiles were also removed. On this blog site you can see many images of the “Yekateringburg” taken in 2010 when she was at port in the homebase Gadzhievo northwest of Murmansk. Blogger51 in Murmansk is also a source of non-official information following the fire.
