Russian President Dmitry Medvedev gives nine million RUB from his reserve fund to a school in Solovki.


The presidential award includes 1096 books, as well as methodological support to the local teachers, a press release from the presidential administration reads. The nine million RUB, which are taken from the President’s reserve fund also includes renovation of the school building, as well as a local kindergarden.

Solovki is a group of islands located in the White Sea. The islands are world known for their picturesque environment, their monastery, as well as their cruel history as labor camp during the Gulag period. About 900 people live in the archipelago.
