The first load with Norwegian LNG arrived in USA

The first ever load with LNG from the Snohvit field in the Barents Sea yesterday arrived in Cove Point, USA.

The arrival to the US of the tanker “Arctic Discoverer” marks a historic event in Norwegian petroleum history. The Snohvit LNG is the first ever natural gas supplied from Europe to the USA, a press release from StatoilHydro reads.

The “Arctic Discoverer” yesterday at about 2.30 pm local time arrived in Cove Point in Maryland, south of Washington DC.

-This is a historic day, StatoilHydro’s director on natural gas, Rune Bjørnson, says. –For twenty years StatoilHydro has supplied the US with oil from the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea. Now we also deliver gas, he added.

he Snohvit field is the first ever hydrocarbon field opened for production in the Barents Sea. With its 33,53 percent ownership stake, StatoilHydro is field operator. Other owners are Petoro (30%), Total (18,40%), Gaz de France (12%) Hess (3,26%) and RWE Dea Norge (2,81%)
