According to the Border Commissioner for the Norwegian-Russian border Ivar Sakserud, the number of people violating the border regulations has been decreasing in course of the last years, NRK reports. The main reason for the decline is the preventive work conducted by the Norwegian border guards, Sakserud says.

Mostly the border is being violated by sport fishers and tourists who are unaware that they have crossed the border. Some people even cross the border illegally just for the thrill of it.

From the Russian side there have been no successful violations of the border so far this year. Russia has a three kilometer strictly regulated border zone along the 196 kilometer long border to Norway.
