EU satellite blasted off from Plesetsk

The rocket was launched Tuesday afternoon from the cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Oblast.

According to the news agency Itar-Tass the 28 meter long and 107 tons heavy booster-rocket uses highly toxic fuel for its engines. The Russian Federal Space Agency said fragments from the booster rocket would fall in areas of the Arctic Ocean.

The research satellite will help scientists to understand how Earth’s gravity influences ocean currents, changes in the water level and the climate, reports Itar-Tass.
