Mayor of closed military town Aleksandrovsk elected

The three closed military towns Snezhnogorsk, Polyarny and Skalisty are about to be merged into one single closed military town, called Aleksandrovsk. The new town council is now ready and has elected a mayor amongst its ranks.

Location

The first elections to Aleksandrovsk town council were held on March 1. To the new town council, which will be in function from January 1 2010 were elected eight deputies from Polyarny, seven from Snezhnogorsk and six from Skalisty.

The town council members unanimously elected Vladimir Ananyev as Mayor of Aleksandrovsk. Ananyev comes from Snezhnogorsk, where he works as Deputy Director for personnel development at the Nerpa shipyard, web site Promurman.ru reports.

The three towns have 50 000 inhabitants. Two of the towns are homes to Northern Fleet submarine units and one to a major ship repair yard.
