Demands publication of seismic surveys

Seismology vessel Geowave Master

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorat (NDP) will not go public yet with the results of seismic shootings in an area outside the Lofoten Archipelago. Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) demands that NPD change this decision in order to have a more orderly debate.

Location

Since 2007 NDP have performed numerous seismic shootings outside the coast of Norway. The results of these surveys will be published in a white paper on the management of the Lofoten and Barents Sea areas, which probably will be presented in 2010.

OLF is critical to NDP’s decision to withhold the results of the seismic shootings for another year. Lars Arne Ryssdal says to Offshore.no that there is no use in having a debate on future development of the Lofoten area without the results from the seismic shooting available.

Ryssdal also believes that it is better to put the debate about Lofoten on wait, and rather first perform test drillings to map the size of possible oil fields in the area.

− The debate about future petroleum developments in the High North should not be done without the best possible knowledge of the areas’ potential, says Ryssdal.
