Head of Barents regional council in meeting with Medvedev

Pia Svensgaard, County Governor of Troms and currently the head of Barents Regional Council, participated at today’s meeting between Stoltenberg and Medvedev.

Location

The Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Russia’s President Dmitri Medvedev met at the Prime Minister’s office in Oslo Tuesday morning. Also, the two countries Foreign Ministers Jonas Gahr Støre and Sergey Lavrov participated in what is believed to be the most important political discussions during the Russian President’s state visit to Norway.

The Barents cooperation was yesterday highlighted as successful by Medvedev in his speech at the official dinner at the Royal Castle. The Barents Regional cooperation involves the three northernmost counties in Norway and five northern regions in Russia, in addition to the northernmost regions of Sweden and Finland.

Also present at the dinner with President Medvedev and King Harald Monday evening was head of the Norwegian Barents Secretariat, Rune Rafaelsen.
