The submarine, named Severodvinsk, was supposed to be put on sea from the Sevmash naval yard on May 7th, but is now said to be floated out later this year, report RIA Novosti. Severodvinsk is the first of a series of new Russian multi-purpose submarines.
The construction of the submarine started back in 1993, but its construction was delayed by almost 15 years due to the economical challenges in Russia over the period.
The navy has plans for construction of a nine submarines of the Graney-class, supposed to replace the current Oscar-II class submarines in Russia’s Northern fleet.
