Russian Customs authorities are to be responsible for the handling of all issues of vehicle control at the border to Finland. That is intended to help increase cross-border efficiency and prevent duplication of operations, RIA Novosti reports. Until now, the Transport Control Authority has been responsible for the vehicle control at the border checkpoints. The new procedure will first be applied at the Suoperia checkpoint from November 1. From 1 February 2010, it will be applied also at other cross-border passes, among them the Lotta station on the border between Murmansk Oblast and Finland.
