18.500 border crossings were counted at the Norwegian, Russian border in August, up from 13.533 in August 2010.
So far this year 120.241 border crossings are counted, up 40 percent compared with the same eight-month period last year, according to the statistics published by the Eastern Finnmark police district.
Russian citizens count for the largest increase, but also the number of Norwegians travelling to the Murmansk region increased slightly in August, according to the statistics.
Finnish border authorities also reports substantial increase in border crossings between the Kola Peninsula and Lapland in August. 14.043 border crossings at Salla and 8.376 at Raja-Joosepin. The increase at Lapland’s two border crossing points to Russia is 30 percent compared with August 2010.
